Description

Changeling VR was the first internship I acquired. I worked in a team of 7 in conjunction with 9 other teams to expand on existing levels and to create new ones using Unreal Engine 4 and Perforce. My team was in charge of the “Tween” level. We had to iterate through several ideas before landing on a core mechanic that really stuck and was fun to playtesters before building an environment to push this mechanic to it’s limits. By the end of the internship term, we had a fully functional core mechanic (which we called the warp gun), a 10-15 minute experience leading you through an environment made out of basic primitives, 3 supplementary mechanics, and transitions between each section. The environment in question had players teleport around in both vertical and horizontal directions whilst avoiding detection from AI enemies, dodging incoming fireballs, and breaking through a vault.

My Work

  • Created and iterated through several ideas before landing on one that stuck
  • Implemented blueprint-based level streaming to smoothly connect all of our levels together
  • Created teleporters using blueprints to work in conjunction with level streaming
  • Grayboxed the level to create a fun and engaging environment
  • Optimized the level to ensure good player experiences
